NFL Referee Botches Call During 3rd Quarter of SF/Pitts Game
If you missed the SF/Pittsburgh game, you also missed a colossal bad call (in fact two bad calls) by the officials during the 3rd quarter. The play involved a SF player catching the ball and was hit mid air and he came down and hit the ground. The ball popped out and a Pittsburgh player grabbed the ball and ran back 41 yards.
Coach Nolan challenged the call.. Both announcers on the program said you could clearly see that the player was down by contact and that the ball didn't come out until the AFTER the player was on the ground and that it should be 1st and Goal for the Niners.
The referee came back and said that the catch was incomplete (claiming the ball hit the ground when it clearly did NOT. This is another example of a botched call on the part of the referees.
The result was a FG instead of the ball being first and goal inside the 10. The NFL needs to admit the referees made an error on that call.
